No. We don't want such a large risk of everything just falling into the same state again.

But isn't it up to us humans to find out how to find peace?

But part of being able to grow is being able to learn from your mistakes...

I don't have that much faith in them.

Why not? Surely a child of all people should be able to see that mistakes are the way we grow and learn...

Sometimes you make too many for you to fix, and somebody else has to stop you.

Yes, but once you are stopped, are you not then told that what you were doing was wrong?

If you keep being told and you never, ever learn, when are you punished?

When your parents punish you, do they take away what makes you yourself? Because that, if my fears are true, is what your God wants...

He's...sent you to take away free will, hasn't he?

In the new world... I think they won't be allowed a freedom like that.

Do you truly think this is the benevolent thing to do? To take away what defines us as human?

I believe it.

[He sticks his chin up, defiant. No matter what Enoch says, his mind won't be changed.]

Tell me, why do you believe it? Why do you think humans should be stripped of their humanity?

*He's only a child...were he an adult, Enoch would have simply walked away. He would have been angry. Instead, he feels he has to rescue this child.*

Father says it's the best way.

[And he badly, badly wants a father. One who's right and who praises him and reassures him that something in his life will be stable.]

Do you know what free will is, little one? It gives our actions meaning. You can impose a certain way of life on humanity, but it will be empty, it will not be ours.

Turn us - not force us - away from paths which will harm us, and eventually we will find something which we will be proud of. And we will be proud of it, and will have grown and matured and be able to appreciate it. Our life will have meaning because we earned it. Surely, your father can appreciate growth through trials.
